RIVOPS Console Alarm Aknowledgment

RIVOPS, a new alarm page for the operator
In the above Distributed Control System (DCS), RIVOPS improves the operator awareness through a better presentation of the alarm summary. The technology is located in the middle-flat surface right below the alarm list. In a fully integrated control & safety system (ICSS), RIVOPS collaborates with third-party expert components for a better alarm management. A new alarm page is introduced into the operator visible pattern to complete his understanding of the alarm list.

RIVOPS, an alarm grouping presentation
A unique solution to present alarm groups to the operator, increase his awareness via a three dimensional visualization of the asset synchronized with the alarm list. The large amounts of sensor values, input/output –IO - points, exposed to the control room constitute a new challenge for the operator. For a typical offshore oil & gas installation, connected to seventy thousand input/output points, the control room is monitoring some fifty thousand alarms & events. During the start-up phase for instance, the control room could well be confronted to a tsunami of information which in itself could lead to a critical scenario. How to deal with all this data, what do to do in the next minutes, or how to keep a safe control over the alarm rate? What to present to the operators? Those are the ultimate questions addressed by EATOPS and its strategic partners.

RIVOPS Cintiq 21UX Console
This piece of hardware is delivered as part of our RIVOPS solution. The console is designed for two operators. The surface pen-display-tablet in the middle is used to display the groups of alarms located on the offshore installation. Monitors are mounted on rails to enable different seat configurations. For instance a senior lead operator training a young operator.

MET screens
Based on a successful spacecraft monitoring technique, RIVOPS translates large amounts of data into understandable images so called visual METscreens. Nowadays Earth-observation satellites produce up to 20,000 live parameters, a large offshore platform along on the Norwegian Shelve or a cluster of 25 offshore installations in the Dutch North Sea produces just as many parameters but with fewer operators in the control room.

3DMET technology
The 3DMET technology is graphically compacting alarms in real-time. Those images are used within the Distributed Control System to avoid reaching the exceeding alarm rate of two alarms per 10 minutes beyond which operations become challenging leading to an upset according to the EEMUA standards. The complete vision over the installation brings the controller to take predictive maintenance actions that will avoid getting any close from these scenarios considerably improving safety on-board or beneath offshore installations. RIVOPS encapsulates 3DMET technology as well as results coming from research in software ergonomics and intelligent graphical user interface. RIVOPS contributes to safer integrated operations leading to reduce downtime and fewer upsets.

Offshore Oil & Gas
RIVOPS is transferring its spacecraft control centre expertise to the Offshore Oil & Gas integrated operations.

Alarm Aknowledgment
This alarm display, also called RIVOPS screen, is subordinated to the alarm list. It provides the operator with a compact representation of the alarm situation. The operator's selection in the alarm list triggers an alarm overview to support the alarm acknowledgment procedure. The above video shows a CitectSCADA-RIVOPS integration.
